A ceilidh, ceili, barn dance, hoe down, folk dance, country dance or whatever you want to call it is a great fun way to meet people and even helps to keep you fit. No prior dancing experience is necessary as all the dances are called – with the caller explaining all the dances in detail – ensuring everyone has great fun no matter how many right and left feet you may have!

Doug & Sarah Duo

Our band for the evening is the Doug Eunson & Sarah Matthews Duo. Doug Eunson (voice, melodeon) and Sarah Matthews (voice, fiddle, viola) use their natural, expressive musicality to craft their arrangements with style and intuitive elegance. As well as drawing on some of the finest English folk song repertoire to sing in breathtaking harmony, they play English and European dance music in outstanding instrumentals and beautifully flowing tune sets.

Our caller for the evening is John Brown. John Brown who is a bit of a regular at Derby Ceilidhs is an established part of the ceilidh scene in the north of England, and has become a large part of the Sheffield ceilidh tradition. His calling style could best be described as fun, blending interesting dances not often seen with old favourites delivered with a degree of humour that puts the dancers at ease and helps everyone have fun. He can be found calling regularly at most the ceilidh series in the north, and festivals up and down the country. He’s been very involved with the student folk scene calling for Sheffield Ceilidh Soc and plenty of behind the scenes work for IVFDF (the student folk festival).

During the interval we have a performance from Willington Morris. Willington Morris is a new female-led Cotswold morris team based in Willington, South Derbyshire.

Come along and enjoy 3 of the best hours of your week with a live band and caller. All the dances are explained so no experience is necessary. Doors open at 7.30pm with dancing from 8pm-11pm (with a short break halfway through).
