What is a Contra Dance?
Contra dancing is an evening of fun, energetic dancing in the same style as English Ceilidh. A caller first explains the movements and then prompts you during the dance. Contra dance is an American version of English Ceilidh dancing but features lively flowing movements. The event is an introduction to Contra dancing so will be easy to learn and dance.
Our band for the evening is the much sought after Jigabit Ceilidh and Barn Dance Band featuring Fiona Maurice-Smith on piano accordion and Jim Walker on fiddle. Charlotte Rich will be guiding you through the dances. Charlotte hails from the West Midlands and can be found regularly at Warwick University Folk Society where she currently runs their dance club.
Come along and enjoy 3 of the best hours of your week with a live band and caller. All the dances are explained so no experience is necessary. Doors open at 7.30pm with dancing from 8pm-11pm (with a short break halfway through).
