Come along and enjoy 3 of the best hours of your week with a live band and caller. All the dances are explained so no experience is necessary. Doors open at 7.30pm with dancing from 8pm-11pm (with a short break halfway through).
Treacle City Dance Band
Treacle City Dance Band comprises musicians with an extensive experience of playing for English country dancing, in an energetic and lively style.
The band comprises:
Alan Squires on melodeon – has a history going back over 40 years playing dance music – in Ram’s Bottom, Shepherd’s Hey, playing for Chip off the Old Women’s Morris, Gingers Street Theatre, Black Pig Border Morris(currently) and over the last two years or so in Treacle City.
Pete Bullock on electric piano– pete has had a long involvement with folk dance music with many bands, including Excelsior Band, Kicking up the Sawdust with Bob Cann, The Albion Band, Busking Sharks with Tufty Swift, Rogues Gallery, Derbyshire Volunteers and with Treacle City since its inception.
Giles Henshaw on percussion is a man of many special percussion talents and plays in a wide variety of musical genres. He also has a keen near for dance music and in this instance we have been able to obtain him on special loan transfer arrangements from the Derbyshire Volunteers, who he has played for since its creation. He will add his own special funky vibe to the music.
Patrick learned to call after a friend asked Whiskey For Six to run a ceilidh. His dance repertoire is varied, with both English and Irish dances and he has also written a few of his own. Patrick’s repertoire of dances range from the simple to the complex – meaning he is capable of calling for beginners and for more advanced groups.
