A ceilidh, ceili, barn dance, hoe down, folk dance, country dance or whatever you want to call it is a great fun way to meet people and even helps to keep you fit. No prior dancing experience is necessary as all the dances are called – with the caller explaining all the dances in detail – ensuring everyone has great fun no matter how many right and left feet you may have!
What is a Contra Dance?
Contra dancing is an evening of fun, energetic dancing in the same style as English Ceilidh. A caller first explains the movements and then prompts you during the dance. Contra dance is an American version of English Ceilidh dancing but features lively flowing movements. The event is an introduction to Contra dancing so will be easy to learn and dance.
Our band for the evening is the Jigadites Ceilidh & Contra Band featuring Fiona Maurice-Smith on piano accordion, Jim Walker on fiddle and Dave Ledsam on Double Bass/Cello.
Come along and enjoy 3 of the best hours of your week with a live band and caller. All the dances are explained so no experience is necessary. Doors open at 7.30pm with dancing from 8pm-11pm (with a short break halfway through).
